Spring Bloom Guide - Westchester County, NY + Fairfield County, CT

Spring is officially here!

I'm Aurora Banaszek, I specialize in residential, commercial, and luxury real estate in Westchester County, NY and Fairfield County, CT. As a lifelong resident, here's my guide to spring blooms in Westchester County, NY & Fairfield County, CT ↓

Having grown up in Armonk, NY, right on the Greenwich, CT border, I’ve spent my entire life watching spring unfold here. I've learned it doesn't arrive all at once. It comes in waves, each one more beautiful than the last.

If you know what to look for and when, you can follow spring from late February all the way through May. Here's what I watch for every year:
(scroll to the bottom for the Spring Bloom Guide with photos/names so you can identity the flowers & trees)

Late February/Early March: The First Signs:

Snowdrops push through frozen ground, sometimes even through snow. These tiny white bells show up when winter's still holding on. Right behind them come the crocuses, closing tight on cold days and opening wide in the sun.

Late March: The Yellow Wave:

Forsythia explodes in bright yellow everywhere—along roadsides, in yards, over fences. That's when you know spring has really started. Daffodils follow close behind.

Early to Mid-April: The Show-Stoppers:

Magnolias bloom on bare branches—those huge pink and white flowers that stop you in your tracks. They don't last long, maybe a week or two. Cherry blossoms come next. Mid-April is peak bloom—entire streets become canopies of pink and white.

Late April/May: The Grand Finale:

Tulips in every color. Bleeding hearts with their delicate pink hearts dangling from arching stems—one of my favorites. Azaleas turning yards pink, purple, and white. Lilacs filling the air with that scent that means late spring. And so many more.

Here's what I've learned:

Every year is slightly different. A warm March brings everything early. A late frost delays the magnolias. But the order stays the same: snowdrops, then crocuses, then forsythia, then magnolias, then everything else in a rush.

If you're new to Westchester NY or Fairfield County CT, or thinking about moving here, spring is one of those things you can't fully appreciate until you've lived through it. It's not just one moment—it's three months of constant change, constant beauty.

Take a walk each week and start to notice what flowers you see, you’ll see what I mean.
