It was on that date that 22 Puritan men from Stamford, Connecticut purchased three square miles known as the “Hopp Ground.” The land was then bought from the native Mohegan Indian chiefs — you can even find a copy of the original deed displayed in the Bedford Town House lobby. You can also find many original buildings from these early days of the town still around today due to Bedford’s commitment to preserving its local architectural charm and connection to its deep history.
